The short version

You tell us about a moment you need words for. We hand you a draft. You pay once, per piece — no subscription, no account. The draft is yours to use however you want, and you're the one who decides whether it's right before you say it out loud.

What [unmute] is

[unmute] (getunmute.co) is operated by Unmute, based in California, United States. We use AI to generate first drafts of personal writing — wedding speeches, eulogies, toasts, apologies, breakup texts, thank-you notes, hard conversations, retirement speeches, and performance reviews. By using the site you agree to these terms. You need to be at least 18 to use [unmute].

What you pay for

Every piece starts with a free preview of the opening lines, so you can judge the writing before paying anything. The full text is a one-time purchase, priced per tier:

Prices are in US dollars and may change, but never for an order you've already placed. Payment is handled by Stripe. After you pay, your text lives at a private link containing your order ID — anyone with that link can read it, so treat it like the personal document it is. We don't create accounts, so that link is your only way back to your text. Save it.

Refunds

If the tool genuinely failed you — it errored out, produced something unusable, or charged you twice — email hello@getunmute.co within 7 days with your receipt and we'll refund you. A human reads every request and we'd rather refund than argue.

One fair-use condition: because the free preview shows you the writing quality before you pay, and the full text is delivered instantly, we can't offer refunds simply because you changed your mind about buying. Refund decisions are made at our reasonable discretion.

The words are yours

You own the draft we generate for you. Use it, edit it, deliver it, publish it, put your name on it — no credit or license back to us required. We claim no ownership of anything you type into the form or anything the tool writes for you.

What [unmute] isn't

[unmute] is a writing tool, not a professional service. It is not therapy, counseling, legal advice, HR advice, or crisis support. Drafts about grief, breakups, and hard conversations are written to help you find your words — not to tell you what to do with your life. If you're in crisis, please reach out to a real person or a local crisis line rather than a writing tool.

AI, accuracy, and your judgment

Drafts are generated by AI (Anthropic's Claude) from the details you provide. The model can misread tone, get facts wrong, or invent a detail you never gave it. Read every draft before you use it. You're responsible for what you ultimately say or send — especially at a funeral, a wedding, or a performance review, where the stakes are real and ours can't be.

Fair use of the service

Please don't use [unmute] to:

Availability and liability

The service is provided “as is.” We depend on third parties (Anthropic, Stripe, Cloudflare) and can't promise uninterrupted uptime or that a draft will arrive by a particular deadline — if your speech is tomorrow, don't leave it to the last hour. To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us for the order in question.

Changes

We may update these terms as the product changes. The “last updated” date above always reflects the current version, and material changes won't apply retroactively to orders you've already placed.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
