The short version
People tell [unmute] genuinely private things — who died, why they're leaving someone, what they're sorry for. So: no accounts, no ad trackers, no selling or sharing your data, and no AI model is trained on anything you write here. We store as little as the product can function on, and we never build a profile of you.
Who we are
[unmute] (getunmute.co) is run by Unmute, based in California, United States. You can reach a human at hello@getunmute.co.
What we actually process
- What you type in the form. Your answers — names, stories, the reason you're ending it — are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to write your draft. For a free preview, that's the end of it: nothing is stored on our side at all. For a paid order, your answers and the finished text are stored on the order record at Stripe, our payment processor, so that revisiting your link doesn't cost you a second charge and so regeneration works.
- Payment details. Handled entirely by Stripe. Card numbers never touch our servers — we never see them. Stripe shares your email address with us on the receipt so we can help with support and refunds. See Stripe's privacy policy for how they handle their side.
- Your access link. There are no accounts and no passwords. After payment, your text is reachable at a private URL containing your Stripe order ID. That link is the key — anyone you send it to can read your text, so keep it to yourself.
- Your browser. Your in-progress form answers are kept in your own browser's session storage so you don't lose them if you bounce to checkout and come back. That data never leaves your device and disappears when you close the tab.
- Server logs. Our host, Cloudflare, keeps standard request logs (IP address, timestamp, page requested) for security and debugging. We don't mine them for anything else.
The AI part, specifically
Drafts are generated by Anthropic's Claude via their commercial API. Under Anthropic's API terms, inputs and outputs are not used to train their models. Anthropic processes your text only to return your draft, and applies its own limited retention for trust-and-safety purposes. See Anthropic's privacy policy. Nobody at [unmute] reads your submissions as a matter of course — the only time a human would look at your content is if you email us asking for help with a specific order.
What we don't do
No accounts. No advertising or analytics trackers. No data brokers. No selling, renting, or sharing your information for marketing. No newsletter you didn't ask for. No public gallery of what people wrote — your breakup text is never going on a highlight reel.
How long things stick around
Free previews aren't stored, so there's nothing to keep. Paid order data lives on your Stripe order record for as long as Stripe retains it, which we also need for tax and accounting records. Cloudflare's security logs roll off on their own schedule. We keep no separate database or backup copies of your writing anywhere else.
Your choices and rights
Clear your browser storage to wipe anything held on your device. Depending on where you live (for example California, the EEA, or the UK), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or get a copy of your personal information, and to object to how it's processed. Email hello@getunmute.co — mention the order date or receipt so we can find the right record — and we'll handle it as the applicable law requires. Asking us to delete an order's content also deletes your ability to reopen that link, which is usually the point.
Children
[unmute] is for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has used the service, email us and we'll delete the record.
Changes
If this policy changes, the “last updated” date above changes with it. We won't quietly start doing something with your data that this page says we don't do.
